The dedrossing operation of a galvanizing
tank is remaining a delicate operation that is presenting
huge risks for the personnel.

FIB has developed a system of grab that
is making it possible to remove most of the dross that is
located at the bottom of the bath. This system is handled
at a distance by the operator.
The system is ensuring a remarkable comfort for the operator
and is allowing a rapid dedrossing in complete safety.

The dedrossing operation.
The dedrossing is an operation that has to be carried out
every three weeks.
This operation is requesting:
- A stop of the production
- The removing of the dross agglomerates that are located
at the bottom of the bath.
In order to carry out this operation correctly,
the personnel often has to work above the zinc in fusion and
to lean forward while making significant efforts. These working
conditions remain dangerous for the personnel and the discomfort
level is excessively high.
Easiness in the operator’s work.
The system consists in a grab plunged into the bath.
This grab is hanged either by the travelling crane of the
customer or by an external frame.

The plunging of the grab is done while operating
the travelling crane or the local crane that has to be foreseen
by the customer.
The grab is allowing the evacuation of the liquid zinc through
holes and includes a system for the dripping of zinc integrated
to the grab.
It is important to notice that the dedrossing
in the corners of the tank still has to be done manually.
The movement of the grab is made thanks to compressed air.
